H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco is the only Head of State to have visited both Poles. And the Sovereign is determined and passionate about preserving nature for a better future. Over the last 15 years, Prince Albert II Foundation has invested nearly $99 million to fund almost 700 projects worldwide, in the fight to protect the Ocean and the Earth, now and for generations to come.

Being passionate about preserving nature for a better future, Prince Albert II of Monaco in 2006 created The Prince Albert II Foundation. A foundation concentrating on environmental protection and sustainable development. H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco very early on promoted the ideal of a new relationship with nature and the various species with which we share our Earth. Quickly becoming aware that we were disrupting all the major planetary balances instead of safeguarding them, thus endangering the future of humanity, the Sovereign decided to become personally involved in His Foundation to increase His action in favour of the environment.

Active all over the world, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation has sought to bring together scientists, political leaders, and economic and civil society stakeholders behind a vital objective for our future – protecting the ocean and the land. The Foundation’s long-term action has led to some encouraging victories being won, whether in safeguarding endangered species or improving living conditions in rural communities by implementing new sustainable and ethical solutions.
